Department of Administration of Justice

For more than 40 years, the Department of Administration of Justice at Salve Regina has been preparing students for meaningful and fulfilling careers in the justice system. Our reputation for success is exemplified by our 2,500 graduates currently serving as judges, lawyers, police officers, special agents, attorneys and child protective workers across the country.

On campus, our majors form intimate bonds with faculty members in their small classes, where interactive role playing, debate and discussion are the preferred methods of instruction. Beyond campus, experiential learning opportunities abound - from interning with the U.S. Secret Service to tutoring delinquent youth at the Rhode Island Training School.

Extracurricular activities include the national criminal justice honor society and the ADJ Club, which sponsors guest speakers and social gatherings. The department's annual Law Day features a keynote address from a prestigious alumnus, award ceremonies and interaction with criminal justice professionals. Administration of justice students benefit from our impressive alumni base with networking events and sponsored internships, which may open doors to future careers.

Our graduates enter such fields as juvenile justice, state and federal law enforcement, forensics, private security and corrections; many go on to law or other graduate schools.

Through the department's increasingly popular accelerated program, highly motivated and qualified undergraduates can earn both a bachelor's and master's degree within five years.

With the popularity of television dramas relating to criminal profiling increasing, it is important for students to understand the reality of criminal investigative analysis "profiling" and debunk the myths. Using actual case studies, students learn inductive and deductive reasoning, identify traits common to violent offenders and apply behavioral analysis to narrow the investigative focus. Students examine the circumstances of the offense, the crime scene and the victim to identify valuable clues as to motive and offender characteristics. The course is taught by Lisa Holley, legal counsel to the R.I. Department of Public Safety, who has also served with the Drug Enforcement Administration's organized crime drug enforcement task force.
